If only everyone could have a helping hand
just even once in a while
what a difference it would make
the hand that leads to a smile
When you’re down when you’re low
the hand that lifts you up
when you’re lost when you’re alone
the hand that shows you’re not
When things go well, when the job is done
a hand that pats your back
when you fall and struggle to get back up
the hand that leads the way
If everyone for just one moment would reach out their hand
to those who struggle to those who succeed to those who try again
how many would it help whose life would it change
if the hand belongs to you it might be yours

So easy it is to quickly judge
the ones we do not know
to assume too much about their lives
thinking we know all about them
Walk for just one minute in their shoes
see life as they do in just one step
before you decide who they are
and what they think and feel
Their hardships may not be what is visible
the minute by minute trials they face
while we presume to know the truth
living the truth is another story
Walk for a moment in their lives
become what they must endure
live as they do each day
for just one moment in time

Talk to someone you don’t know today
share a smile with a stranger
include someone in your life
make your circle larger
Give hope to someone who is down
a shoulder to those less strong
listen to a broken heart speak
open your heart wider
Praise someone who has overcome
or one who has done well
a pat on the back can change a life
open your arms farther
Practice inclusion with every step
dismiss none think of all
walk for a second in another’s shoes
open your life each moment more

Molten gold now hard and cold
Tiny sparkles of light lined in twisted rows
Wrapping their arms around a center star
Like a galaxy filled with unnumbered delights
The finger grows older more lined
The love grows sweeter and more refined
The golden sparkle remains with a new owner
One filled with memories of the wearer who came before

A secret life is that important
Hide things we never share
From those who call themselves friends
And those we wish were never there
Things we never speak aloud
Whispers to our hearts
Not where anyone would hear
Use them to pick us apart
A secret life is that important
Holding everything in place
Keeping truth from seeping
Nothing showing on our face
Things we desire
We dare not say
Hidden in depths
Kept so far away
A secret life is that important
Keeps us sane so we believe
When as the spider to the fly
We practice to deceive

The welcome mat laid out to start
friendships new and renewed
in cyberspace we meet and share
what’s up with me and you
From all over these friends now come
together relationships we build
through posts and messages
our lives to be filled
Though we may have never met
or once knew each other long ago
friendship is just a click away
learning things we want to know
Over time and space we connect
strands in the universe are we
new and renewed in cyberspace
welcome friends I now see

There are those called friend
and the word doesn’t fit
for they are only shells
of what a friend should be.
There are those called friend
who turn out to be users,
liars and backstabbing gossips
nothing a friend should be.
There are those called friend
who are only when they wish it
and not when you truly need them
never what a friend should be.
There are those called friend
who are there through it all
walking heart to heart
always what a friend should be.

Heat filled days that smolder
the air lapping like tongues of flame
breathing becomes harder to control
each touch a burn to the skin
The flames continue into the night
nothing takes the burn away
now inside and out the fire consumes
rest and start again
The fuel of pent up yesterdays
waiting for the flames to lick
tasting the untouched the fire spreads
leaving behind only the smolder
In the embers the fire is still hot
hidden waiting for the next spark
the next breath so passionately breathed
the burn of this desire

Through this maze of darkened struggle
at times lost and still others found
the walk long the truth is not easy
just trying to get up off the ground
Nagging at the corners never quiet
the past it whispers you are there
inside it we try to find the way
afraid to share
We try to run it winds ever still
this heart maze ever changing never finished
all that come in truly never leave
the pieces found along the way
Struggle against the infinity
where is the place without whispers
the twists and turns and on it goes
slaves we have become continuing to walk
