Once there was only a part
a piece of a life
convinced it was all there was
drifting alone
Believing it was fine
to be this way forever
just a deceit
because it was never true
A part, a piece nothing more
a life half lived
searching trying to find
something, someone
Found and now together
one part you one part me
knowing this forever
one plus one makes a whole

The way you love me
every day by saying you do
sending me notes just
to say so
The way you love me
making me laugh a lot
whether I want to
or not
The way you love me
sharing the daily load
as we together
walk this road
The way you love me
more every day
I love that you
love me this way

There but for grace
would I be in your place
your trials to bear
but for grace I would be there
Those who cry
and those who die
moms with children ill
those who’ve lost the will
But for grace it would be me
in places sad to be
the hardships unnumbered
with frailty encumbered
But for grace I am not there
my life beyond compare
pray some of my grace falls to thee
thankful always not to be

So you think you’ve got it bad
believe me there’s always someone worse
just open up your eyes
and listen to this verse
always someone out there
who is suffering more than you
regardless of what you think you know
believe me it is true
someone who is hurting, crying, dying
or wishing that they could
stop thinking just of you
for a moment if you would
see the bigger world
the one where true pain does live
past your own little patch of earth
open up your heart and give

Perhaps I should be sorry
maybe there should be regrets
but I find I can’t seem to be
and regrets are a waste of time
Once the choice was made
needn’t bother to take it back
for it remains in the forever
and there is nothing else
Change a life ruin a life
what difference does it make
nothing to be done about it
once it takes flight
Still not sorry
without even one regret
in that one small instant
the moment that we met

The last time that you were there
it was Spring as it is now
and I was there
watching you slip away
remembering all the past
memories flooding me like a Spring rain
somehow it was only the good things
the last time that you were there
The last time that you were there
tears flowed like a melting river
as if my soul could be washed clean
and I was there
The last time you were there
new life waited to begin
as part of my life ended
and I was there

Everything is always slipping
slowly quickly like vapors of life
people who slip in and out
hours that slip slow and fast
Children that grow into men
time has no meaning
it’s just a human measure
because everything is still slipping
In constant motion our lives
always moving forward
everything slipping
while we stand and watch
To remember that we die only once
yet live every day
do so before all we know
is slipping away

Strings that connect us
bind us together with energy
a touch on one is a touch on all
the vibrations extend to the infinite
A kindness done to one
becomes new to another
traveling down the strings
to reach strangers untold
Choices made in this moment
become roads taken paths traveled
down the long life strings
affecting all some small some large
Strings that resonate far beyond your space
to reach into the hearts minds lives of the many
actions of the one touching the infinite
connected never ending

If only everyone could have a helping hand
just even once in a while
what a difference it would make
the hand that leads to a smile
When you’re down when you’re low
the hand that lifts you up
when you’re lost when you’re alone
the hand that shows you’re not
When things go well, when the job is done
a hand that pats your back
when you fall and struggle to get back up
the hand that leads the way
If everyone for just one moment would reach out their hand
to those who struggle to those who succeed to those who try again
how many would it help whose life would it change
if the hand belongs to you it might be yours

So easy it is to quickly judge
the ones we do not know
to assume too much about their lives
thinking we know all about them
Walk for just one minute in their shoes
see life as they do in just one step
before you decide who they are
and what they think and feel
Their hardships may not be what is visible
the minute by minute trials they face
while we presume to know the truth
living the truth is another story
Walk for a moment in their lives
become what they must endure
live as they do each day
for just one moment in time
