Mind full of chaos
life full of stress
pushing for the surface
always swimming
Searching for sleep
looking for peace
trying to catch a breath
always swimming
Sorting things out
picking and choosing
cutting through the waves
always swimming
Finding few answers
reaching ever forward
working just to stay afloat
always swimming

Everything’s a risk
nothing guaranteed
tomorrow is not promised
it’s all just chance
Fortune favors the bold
timidity hinders success
out on a limb
willing to take a risk
Nothing ventured nothing gained
hanging back leaves you behind
pack leaders never afraid
risk is at the front of the line
Tomorrow waits for no one
procrastination isn’t a risk
reach for the stars
and beyond
Life is worth the risk

Inexorably slowly continuously
tick
hands of time move always
even if you don’t hear
Creeping crawling moving
tick
never stopping ever
even if you don’t see
Speed haste fast
tick
seemingly quicker each second
even if you don’t feel
Quicker faster hastier
tick
seconds seems smaller
even if you don’t know
Another year almost gone
tick
365 days nearly spent
even if you don’t want

How easily each stress
becomes a mountain
pushed every higher
each passing day
can start small
a grain of sand
inevitably growing larger
we make it so
small hill larger hill
small mountain larger mountain
what we allow it to be
make it become
added to every day
few more feet tall
until all we are
is a dot in the shadows

All fun and games
until someone gets hurt
played well and badly
both without thinking
Manipulations and machinations
taking turns
roll of the dice
chance or choice
Everybody plays
some better than others
winners losers
no in between
twists turns
always something new
questions no answers
just games
Every day starts anew
begin again
all fun and games
until someone gets hurt

Day has arrived
in all its glory
time to be merry
or that’s the story
Presents are opened
stockings taken down
only smiles in sight
never a frown
Dinner is served
eaten in full
nap on the couch
that seems to be the rule
One day a year
to be merry it seems
filled with food
laughter and dreams
Maybe being merry
should be every day
wouldn’t the world
be better off that way

Day before the day
anticipation in full
waiting on Santa
the sleigh to pull
Hours tick by slowly
each one counted out
closer to Christmas
building to a shout
Presents that mock us
all around the tree
seemingly screaming
open me open me
No matter the age
kids still await
Christmas morning
to learn their gift fate
Day before the day
waiting for it to leave
the longest day of all
happy Christmas Eve!

Time now to rest
break from the quest
enjoy down time
write a little rhyme
No work no school no stress
forget about the mess
movies books long cat naps
some hot chocolate perhaps
Fuzzy pajamas toasty warm slippers
TV and DVD flippers
Christmas tree lights aglow
presents lined up in a row
Time to relax just chill
books to read still
Christmas break is the best
now it is time to rest

Such a sap
cry so easy
with every holiday
commercial
Each song
and scene
bringing tears
back again
Tender heart
soft soul
spirit open
emotions broken
Such a sap
little things
touch the heart
tears fall
CocaCola bears
Apple Christmas videos
stories of magical
holiday cheer
Music plays
scenes fill the screen
once again
such a sap

From far away
it seems okay
but up close it’s
a big old mess
Lives of others seem
from far away
much more perfect
than is true
From afar they appear
beautifully put together
something to be
envied
Closer inspection reveals
true brush strokes
mashed together
and messy
Even closer looks
become blurs of
noise and color
and truth
Perfect from afar
others lives but
up close just a
full on Monet
