Wish

I wish I had known
you better when
I was very young

I wish I had gotten
to spend more time
with you when I
was a little girl

I wish I had learned
more about you
over the years

I wish you had
been more a part
of my children’s
lives

I wish there was
more time to spend
with you now

One wish came true
in that you loved
me and I loved you

Unexpected

Out of the blue
shock to the system
here then gone
unexpected losing you

Phone call
just the other day
all seemed fine
unsure what to say

Christmas card
received this week
written by you
can hardly speak

Long life
still it hurts
to let you go
today

Here no more
in a blink
gone from me
unexpected

Now

Past is gone
future not yet here
there is only
now

Memories no regrets
over what was
now is all
we have

Tomorrow awaits
but is not
reside only in
the now

This moment
nothing more
live in this
now

Shake off
the past
do not worry
for the future

Now today
this instant
now is all the
time we have

Holidaze

Rushing to and fro
unsure what day it is
online and to stores we go
seeking gifts to buy

Nonstop action so it seems
barely stopping
even to notice
those in need

Concerned with our lives
lists with our family
our friends only
charity found nowhere

Too busy for homeless
hopeless helpless creatures
who fill out town
and streets

Worried only about us
what we need to do
to get to give
so selfish

Going here and there
walking right be them
lost as we are
in a holidaze

Last

Last straw
bridges burned
choices made
all done

Warned once
then twice
never listened
paid price

Road end
no turns
one way
lessons learned

Sent away
no choice
you decided
this course

Last straw
last bend
done now
the end

Blues

Holiday blues
have come to visit
sliding up inside
in mind

Came silently
without much notice
until they stayed
without warning

Usually happy
this time of year
not so much
this time

Feeling weepy
a lot stressed
not sure why
oh dear

Go away
and very soon
these holiday blues
from me

Angels

Soup kitchen
shelter workers
those who provide
warmth

Charities
bell ringers
those who give
more

Food banks
holiday meals
those who feed
others

Prayer warriors
lifting up
those who speak
truth

Counselors
therapists
those who listen
closely

Gift card
bringers
those who help
children

Unselfish
givers
those who offer
hope

Angels…all

Twinkling

Just one look
is all it takes
the twinkling lights
my day to make

Whether inside or out
many or few
nothing brightens me
like they do

Still when I see them
the words appear
Christmas Lights
for all to hear

Doesn’t matter the color
or the kind
twinkling lights
they lift my mind

Whatever my mood
instant delight
with just one look
at the twinkling light

Choose

Choose to accept less
to be treated badly
because it’s too scary
to be alone

Choose to stay
in a bad relationship
because you think
you can’t do better

Choose to take
the pain
because you feel
you deserve it

Choose to believe
all people act this way
so there’s no reason
to look for more

Choose the situation
you’re in
or choose differently
but you choose

Mirrors

Room full of mirrors
glance here there
looking ever deeper
hoping for a different reflection
